Interview: Margaret Minister O'Keefe: Overseeing Licensing at Angela Adams Designs

Margaret Minister O’Keefe, formerly a partner in the intellectual property litigation practice with Pierce Atwood LLP, will join Angela Adams Designs, LLC as the company’s General Counsel and Vice President of Licensing, reporting to the company’s co-founders, Angela Adams and Sherwood Hamill.

At Angela Adams, O’Keefe will be responsible for identifying potential licensing partners and other business development opportunities, negotiating multinational and global licensing agreements, and developing and overseeing full licensee portfolio and strategy, including brand marketing/integrity, product development, and revenue enhancement. In addition, she will be responsible for all aspects of intellectual property registration and protection, U.S. customs issues, Federal Trade Commission labeling requirements, employment and benefits issues, and business contracts ranging from simple vendor agreements to complex financing documents.

Prior to joining Angela Adams Designs, O’Keefe was a partner in the law firm of Pierce Atwood LLP, the largest law firm in north of Boston, where she handled a wide variety of business litigation, primarily copyright, trademark and patent infringement, but also covering contractual disputes, the Uniform Commercial Code, noncompetition agreements, business torts, antitrust and restraints of trade. O’Keefe also counseled clients on a variety of issues of particular concern to the luxury goods, textile, and fashion and apparel industries, such as trademark and copyright protection, anti-counterfeiting measures, fiber content labeling requirements, precious metal and gemstone labeling requirements, and country of origin marking rules.

O’Keefe received her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1993 and began her legal career at Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, L.L.P., Washington, DC in the international trade practice. She has an AV® rating from Martindale-Hubbell and has been recognized in Woodward & White’s The Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA: America's Leading Business Lawyers, and New England Super Lawyers®.
