Alex Bok: Lawyer Finds Meaningful Outlet for His Baseball Passion
Alex Bok, a Boston native, grew up an avid baseball fan. As a young adult, he continued to root for the Boston Red Sox, even though the team had not won a World Series since 1918. In choosing a career, however, Alex did not go for the long shot. Instead, he earned a law degree and an MBA.
Alex practiced law in a firm setting for over a decade; but it was during his time as general counsel to a public relations firm where he rediscovered his passion for baseball. In this capacity, Alex worked with the current owners of the Boston Red Sox in helping them to purchase the team. Along the way, Alex realized that going to a baseball game was a great way to spend time with his three children.
Alex became a regular at Boston’s Fenway Park. At the same time, he became aware of the high cost of attending a major league baseball game in Boston (over $400 for a typical family of four after you pay for tickets, parking and food) He concluded that Boston has a real need to provide cheaper alternatives for families who want to see a professional baseball game.
Alex is now working full-time to bring his "Field of Dreams" to Boston. He has put together a small group of investors who have provided the initial capital necessary to explore the dream of bringing affordable baseball to Boston. He continues to explore potential sites for locating a stadium and he is already raising his next round of capital. As President of Boston Baseball Field of Dreams, Alex makes use of his legal skills, his relationship with his former clients (the owners of the Red Sox) and his deep roots in the Boston legal and business communities. Most importantly, Alex spends his days on a passion which he enjoys a lot more than simply practicing law.
